Burlington Bell Cistern

Had to refurbish and refit an old burlington cistern this morning.
Solid cast iron, 80 years old, and still working.
How long does a modern cistern last?
Not that long, that's for definite.
If you're curious as to how they work follow this link

And here's the matching pan!
They don't make them like this any more!

Please see www.users.waitrose.com/~ttagrevatt/vlav/works_cisterns.html, these beauties flush on the down stroke.
Someone ground off the small feet on the bottom of the bell on mine, thinking it would "suck" better, when all that did was to stop water from the rest of the cistern going up the bell when the syphon started!
